Please pray for Megan

Please pray for our prodigal daughter. She was raised and loved in a Godly home. She asked Jesus to be her Lord at an early age. The last six months she has turned her back on her beliefs. We continue to pray for her daily but have little contact with her. Our hearts are broken. Thank you for you prayers.

Please pray for Jeremy

Please pray for my son, Jeremy. He is a drug addict but refuses to see his needs. He was in rehab for two months last year, but I believe he started back into it with a few days of coming home. He is 33 years old. Does anyone have suggestions? Please pray for him. I will remember your prodigal prayers. Thank you so much. I know God loves him more than we do.

Please pray for Luke

Luke is 19 yrs. old, had received Jesus as a young child, but after graduating from High School said he no longer believed the stories of the bible, or that Jesus is the only way. Luke is now addicted to marijuana and alcohol, he is barely making it through a few classes at community college, spends most of his time with young men that are on this same path doing the same things. My husband and I pray daily together and are united, but we are both weary – boundaries and consequences are constantly being tested. We know our only hope is our Saviour/Redeemer Jesus Christ.

That I will allow God to work on her and not interfere, that I will obey His will in this and not try to step in and fix everything in my time and to my own satisfaction.

So, my prayer request is that my son embraces the glory of the Holy Spirit and also the same for me.

Please pray for Ethan

Ethan begged Jesus into his heart when he was six. He was filled with the Holy Spirit, went out on mission, inspired passion in others toward the Lord. In high school, he was anointed as worship leader, singing praises, which was prophesied over him when he was in my womb. While at college, and has hardened his heart toward God, Christ, his family. Our heart’s desire is that he would ‘return to his own borders’ and when he has turned toward the Father again, that he, like Peter, ‘would strength his brothers.’ Thank you for praying and believing he will know the truth and be set free to serve Christ. Sooner rather than later.

Please pray for Joseph

My teenage son used to be a believer, and a witness to others. He has lost his faith in God, however, and is planning a career in a field where being a Christian is often seen as foolish (science). He is a good son, and is getting ready to go to college. Please pray that God will put friends and teachers in his path who will influence him for Christ, and that God will give him faith to believe again. If God is for us, who can be against us? Greater is He who is in me, than he who is in the world. I STAND on these promises.

Please pray for Peter

Please pray for Peter. Due to the fact that we Peter was stealing from my husband and I and pawning the items for money, we have had to “kick” him out of our home. He is homeless, jobless, rebellious, angry, and bitter. Pray for God to chip away at Peter’s hard heart and give him a heart of flesh that would seek healing between himself and other family members. Pray for salvation!!!

Please pray for Roland / Valerie

My daughter 26, is living with a man who is 10 years older than she is and has taken her daughter to live with them. My son, 30, has 3 daughters, three different mothers, whom he never sees. He does not work… They both were believers once, and read the Bible, and asked me to pray for them often. Now it is as though they never knew God, and I fear that it will be a tragedy that will make them turn back to God.

Please pray for Hannah

Hannah, our young teen girl, has been going out in the middle of the night and getting drunk. She has been doing self-injury for almost 2 years. She has turned away from the Lord. She is now sneaking out “dating” another boy who has turned from the Lord.

We are on the mission field and are returning to the US this coming year so Hannah can get professional counseling. I feel like the enemy is tearing our family apart.

Please pray for Peter

Please pray for our son, Peter. He is 20 years old. His life is characterized by lying, stealing, drinking, fear, depression, anger, and rebellion. He is blind to the fact the it is his own behavior that causes him such misery. He desperately needs the Savior. Please pray for God to press tightly in on every side and bring an awareness of sin that will bring the humility it takes to surrender to Christ.

Please pray for repair of these relationships. Please pray that I would change and grow so Theresa can and will respect me.I have not seen her since June 2010 but I know she is a college student nearby.
Please pray for my 23 year old daughter who has become involved with an older man who is very controlling and manipulative and who has taken her away from her faith, her values, and her family. I ask that she breaks free from the sinful choices she is making, and that she embraces God’s will for her life.
Please pray for Lauren and Ariana

I am a divorced Mom of two daughters, 19 and 21 who live together in the Arts District of a large city. They have stopped attending the church near them they chose to attend and have become conformed to the world. Though it breaks my heart to see what they are missing out on in the Lord, I do believe He will use it all for their good and His glory.
Please pray that the eyes of hearts will be enlightened. That God will reveal Himself to them. That His loving kindness will lead them to repentance. That they will ‘come again to their own border’. That they will call upon Him in the day of trouble and He will deliver them and He will be glorified. Amen.

Parents Name: C

Please pray for R

Our son broke the relationship with us nearly two years ago. He and his Godfather decided they had a better relationship and drew up a legal document to declare themselves ‘Father and son’ – a double heartbreak as a friend for 27 years and has betrayed the trust we placed in him when we made him Godparent. Our son has since changed his name completely. The two are ostensibly ‘Christians’ and have started their own ministry, but it has all the hallmarks of a cult. R is now a complete stranger – he’s not the same wonderful, charming, loving and funny son we used to have. Please pray he’ll come home. We love him and we miss him so much.

Parents Name: J

Please pray for A

My daughter knows the Lord; she was dedicated from the womb to Him. She was brought up in the church, wanted to get baptized after she publically made Jesus her Savior and Lord–she was eleven. As a young teenager, she defended the Word of God many times in public school, stood up for her beliefs among her peers, and even evangelized to them. She helped out with the children’s ministry at church, and joined my husband and I on the worship team, which made me so happy! She was part of the Bible Club at her high school, and even became president of it as a Senior. She was engaged to be married (although at a young age) to a wonderful young man one year older than her, who was studying to be a pastor. All that changed as of last February 2010. She met a young man at college who was became both her and her fiancé’s friend, and started to hang out until all hours with him. She left her fiancé in May, and “officially” started “dating” and moved in with this guy in August. Since all this happened, she’s smoking, has drank (only admitted to it once), left the church, and doesn’t speak too much to me anymore. She has lied left and right about things, and I am at my wits end. It’s evident that the enemy is trying to steal, kill, and destroy her and our relationship. She knows better, and realizes that she is being tested, but yet has done nothing to improve her relationship with God or her parents. Please pray for her to return to the Lord.

Parents Name: G

Please pray for V

Please pray for my son who is addicted to heroin and can’t seem to stop using. He has been in prison several times, released and started to use again. There is now a warrant for his arrest because he did not obey the rules of his probation. I believe he wants to stop using but it doesn’t seem to work out. I have prayed for years. Any prayer would be appreciated.

Parents Name: H

Please pray for L

Pray for God’s angels to watch over Lora and keep her safe. May the Holy Spirit work in her heart to bring her to you spiritually. May the Lord guide her to the help she needs following sexual assault, alcohol misuse, and many painful experiences over the past couple years.
Help our family to play the role You would have us take in assisting her. Keep us strong in our faith in You. Thank You, dear Lord, for the peace You have given us thus far. Thank You for Your everlasting love!

Parents Name: J

Please pray for K

As a 21 year old mother of two our daughter is choosing to “find happiness” without her fiancé. She is involved with partying friends that make horrible choices with both alcohol and sexual actions. I ask for prayer for her safety, God’s hand in guiding her and that throughout this she will come home so much wiser, repentant and most importantly full on in love with God and Jesus.

Parents Name: Joanne

Please pray for V and T

I know God has His hand on their lives. I know the miracles God has done in my life…my faith is strong, my flesh is weak. I am an enabler and I believe I am getting in the way of God working in their lives. I can’t help myself. Somehow I am afraid of what my sons may have to go through to get to where they need to be! My prayer of course is for the boys to serve the Lord and trust in Him completely…but also for me to let go and let God!!! Thank you Mom – Joanne

Please pray for my 23 year old daughter N. She has bi-polar and has begun to display effects of the disease (again) but doesn’t recognize this. She knows the Lord but has begun drinking and putting herself in dangerous situations. Thanks, Mom – Lynda

Please pray for my daughter S. She has 1 yr left to finish her BS degree but was arrested due to DUI. She works in a bar (strip club) and is far, far away from her Father God. She has always been very strong willed and determined to “do it her way” although as a young child she loved God and was very gifted musically and wrote worship songs. Everything changed at age 14. Her father is alcoholic and we divorced in 1999 and this exacerbated her lifestyle. Please also pray for me – Thanks – Mom – J

Our daughter, L, was brought up in a Christian home, led worship for years, and witnessed effectively at university this past fall. After being influenced by a boyfriend, she has wandered from God & is confused. Would you please pray for L, her boyfriend and his family? Please also pray for our 17 year old daughter, Laura who needs to forgive those who have betrayed her trust, rejected her, or hurt her and allow the healing from God to enter her life. Thank you. Mom – S

Our boys have both experienced salvation and were raised in a pastor’s home. Please pray for my son, N, who is 22 and living in NYC with his girlfriend. She has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Please also pray for my son, J who is 19, and has allowed himself to become mixed up in a belief system that is contrary to God’s Word. He is hateful, surly and planning to leave at the end of the summer to return to his new-found friends. Please pray for the broken hearts of my husband and me, as we are not doing well under this burden, especially while trying to pastor. Thank you. Parents – T and C

Please pray for my beloved son, Josh (age 19). Josh does not know the Lord as his own personal savior, and, in his attempts to fill the “emptiness” of his heart, has become self-indulgent, self-destructive, and depressed. Please pray that his heart would be softened and that he would become sensitive to God’s calling and will for his life. Mother – Janine

Please add Sarah (age 27) to your prayer list. She is single and was raised in the church. She even went on a mission trip to Africa with Teen Mania. Now living in rebellion. Thanks, Mom – Rose

Please pray for my beautiful daughter. We are asking God to bring her rebellion to an end and help her see His love for her – and to come back to us. Please also pray for our son who also needs salvation and deliverance. Both our children were raised in a Christian home. Praying Mom – Lisa

Please pray for my son, Jonathon, and his wife Sarah. Pray they will turn to Jesus and make Him Lord of their lives. Jonathon was raised going to church but walked away at age 25. Thank you. Mom – Peggy

Please pray for my son, Matt. He is 22. He knows the Lord but has been caught up in the world and using drugs for over 4 years. He has been arrested, put in jail, been to rehab twice. The longest he has been sober/clean is 90 days. Hoping this nightmare will end soon. Mom – LB

2009

Please pray for my sons J and M, They are both far from the Father. They are now independent and grown young men, who do not live for the Lord. What a blessing it would be to see some fruit begin to show in their lives. Mom – Sandy

Please pray for my 19 yr old son A. He proclaimed his homosexuality and left home a year ago. Since then he has cut off his parents though we reach out to him in love. Now he has left our town and moved out-of-state without a word to us. Please pray that he return his heart to his family and his Lord. Pray for me his mother that the heartbreak I suffer from his desertion will lessen and become manageable.

Please pray a miracle healing for A. my son who is 30 years old. He is addicted to prescription drugs. He came from a very strong Christian Faith and upbringing. Please pray for God to move this mountain from him and heal him – body, soul and spirit. He has been through drug rehab and a medical protocol, but to no avail. He needs Jesus. Thanks! Mom, Susan

Please pray for my 26 year old son, N, who has never accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. His heart is proud and rebellious and he continues to make bad decisions. He is living with a woman twice his age who enables him to continue to live in debt and stay angry and resentful at why he owes people money. Pray that he would accept God’s grace and God would grant him repentance and he would know Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior.

My wife and I are in full time ministry. We pastored for 15 years, and currently we are full-time missionaries stationed here in the USA – but we organize and facilitate short term mission trips for churches and Christian Schools. We do all of the “behind the scenes” logistics, then we go with the group on the missions trip. We make the connections and set up the ministry projects.

We raised two children in a Christian home. A daughter and a son. Both grew up in a grace-filled home that was not legalistic, good Christian schools, youth groups, teen retreats, Promise Keepers, Women of Faith Conferences, etc.. We ensured that our children had our time and attention as the ministry can be very draining. We read books on parenting, listened to James Dobson and Bill Gothard, etc.., and thought we put all the ingredients into the cake so that it would turn out right. Honestly, we did not have a perfect home but we really do earnestly strive to love GOD and be genuine followers of Jesus Christ. Others have commented about our home and the peace that was there, and how it wasn’t just a “show”.

Well, the cake fell – with our son. Our daughter gave us very little trouble – she is now 24, married with two children, and doing fine. We do pray for her walk with the LORD to be closer than what it is, but all we can do is pray, be an example, and offer encouragement along the way. She’s a good woman, good wife and mother, but her and her husband are in a season of life that is very demanding, and it appears to drain them spiritually at times. We understand and simply encourage them.

But when our son turned age 13, he began a journey that took us into a 6 year nightmare. He rebelled against everything we had taught him. Someone in school introduced him to drugs and he “sampled” marijuana. This was the gateway drug that led him into a deep life of drug use. His favorite “high” became what is know on the street as “Skittles” — Robitussin capsules. The kids call it “Dex” for short, because of one of the ingredients in the cough syrup that works to limit coughing. Our son discovered from other teens that if you popped a handful of these and chased it with hard liquor, it would send you into orbit.

For 6 years, our son used “Dex”, marijuana, alcohol, and dabbled with harder drugs like “Meth” and “Ecstasy”. Because of his behavior, he was expelled from a Christian school, and public school. People left our church because of things he did. He was fired from 4 jobs for stealing and served two jail sentences before he was 18 for theft and underage drinking. He overdosed twice. One time we found him overdosed and thought he was dead. We had to call 911 and have his stomach pumped. The second time he overdosed he was living 10 hours away and a friend found him. His friend took him to the hospital and we left our house immediately at 3am to drive the ten hours to be with him. Also, he chose to be homeless on 3 occasions and lived in two Rescue Missions.

During this 6 year nightmare, my wife and I were numb. It was as if someone had ripped our hearts out and stomped on them – squeezing the life out of us. I did not enjoy sleeping or eating, because I did not know where my son was. I did not know what he was eating, or if he was eating. I cried many times. My wife cried. We’d hold each other and cry. We felt so helpless. We would often try to help our son with funds and food and encouragment, only to be deceived and used. There were even times when his prodigal needs would threaten the unity in our marriage because we would disagree on how to help him or not – and this required discernment and communication between us.

Friends and social workers advised us to let him go and not cushion his fall, but it was very difficult to do that. We kept thinking that our generosity would win him over – but he was addicted and had become a different person. We knew that deep insde of him there was a kind, loving, caring, respectful young man, but that side of him was dormant.

When I would stand in a pulpit to preach, or minister in a retreat or missions trip, I was smiling on the outside and trying to keep everyone encouraged, but very few knew of the excruciating pain I was feeling on the inside. I was depressed but his it well. A few times, after I preached, a young man would walk forward to be saved or commit his life to serving the LORD, and all I could think about was my own son. The enemy of my soul would whisper: “See, you can reach others, but you can’t even reach your own son – you hypocrite, you failure, you fake.”

There were days when I couldn’t even pray. I even felt angry at GOD. I couldn’t read certain verses in the Bible about child-rearing and promises about your children growing up to serve the LORD. I would skip over them because I felt angry — or I felt guilty — or I blamed myself, though our son never blamed us or used his upbringing in a pastors home . That’s one thing he never did, he never blamed us r his upbringing.

Finally, when our son was 18, we let go. We told him: “No more money, no more help, no more transportation, no more anything except love and prayer. You know we love you, you know how we raised you (not perfect mind you, but I think with consistency), and you know the values we’ve modeled. Good bye. You have chosen your path. We will pray for you and always love you.” That was one of the toughest decisions we’ve ever made in our lives. But with the help of GOD and your e-mail newsletters and a few close friends, we were able to release any false guilt and move on with our lives. Also, we read a very good book authored by Allyson Bottke titled: “Setting Boundaries With Your Adult Children” which gave us “permission” to move on with our lives and let our son find his way. The LORD calmed our fears and we prayed that He would keep our son alive until he “returns home”.

Within 6 months our son hit the bottom. No one was around to help him. Just like in the Prodigal Son parable, “no man gave unto him”. He had no friends left – his partying crowd deserted him, and he ended up homeless again, living in a homeless shelter 4 hours from our home.

Then, one day the phone rang. A ringing phone had become a nervous event for me because I never knew if it was that call every parent fears. You know the one.

I answered the phone and heard the broken voice of my son. He said: “Dad, it’s me, please listen. I am done. I need help Dad. I can’t live this way anymore. I have seen how you and Mom live, and it works. My life doesn’t work. I am not deceiving you Dad. I really need help. Can you help me find a rehab?”

( I am crying as I type this e-mail. My tears are expressions of praise to GOD!)

My wife and I drove the four hours to get him. When we arrived at the specified location in that town – our son walked out of an alley, and we hardly recognized him. He was so thin – boney, he hadn’t shaved in a few days, he stank very badly, he had nothing except a faded t-shirt, jeans that were dirty and torn up, and an old pair of shoes that had the soles so thin and floppy because the glue was wearing out around the bottom of the shoe. We embraced our prodigal, wept, put him in the car, drove to a restaurant, bought him some clothes at a Salvation Army store, and dropped him off at a Teen Challenge Rehab facility located 5 hours away from that town.

Since then — here’s how GOD has “restored the years the locusts have eaten”. HALLELUJAH!!!

Now our son is 21. He came out of Teen Challenge, enrolled in a program to become a high-quality Chef (a boyhood dream he always had), he has kept the same job for one year (he is a chef at an upscale restaurant in our town), he has his own apartment, he met a nice girl over one year ago who loves him and loves GOD, they got married 4 weeks ago (I officiated their wedding and my wife sang), HE DOESN’T EVEN SMOKE CIGARETTES! Which is a huge testimony because he was addicted to everything! He is respectful, kind, caring, generous, responsible, handsome, ethical, frugal, and very adamant about being a success. He asks me questions regularly about the Bible and how to live for GOD and overcome temptation. He is becoming my best friend. HALLELUJAH!!!!!! He has been consistent for one year – no drugs, no theft, same job, no deceit, etc..!

Today is Christmas. In a few hours, we will drive to our sons apartment, pick up him and his lovely wife, and drive to my parents home to enjoy Christmas dinner together and exchange gifts.

All praise be to GOD ALMIGHTY that our prodigal son who was a homeless drug addict 16 months ago, is now “home”. We pray that other “Parents of Prodigals” will receive hope and strength from our story.

In Christ,

4 of our 5 teenagers were classic prodigals, turning their backs on the Bible they grew up with and the faith of their parents. We had the whole gamut; meth, drive by shootings, teen pregnancy, blasphemy, and violence against parents, a daughter raped, etc, etc. Friends and family treated us like we had leprosy.

For 10 years our hearts were ripped out and shown to us beating their last, by our children.

But the Lord Jesus made Himself more real to us as parents. We entered into a much deeper relationship with Him. We learned several valuable lessons worth passing on.

1. Don’t give up even though the pressure to throw up your hands is overwhelming. Dobson says that raising teenagers is like a canoe ride down the rapids, each turn getting more frightening, and you know a giant waterfall is around the next corner – don’t jump out of the canoe. Eventually, in God’s time you find yourself in calm waters.

2. Learn that God’s promises are not only generic for His church, but He gives you many personal promises about your children. “I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day. 2 Tim 1:12 To commit your prodigal to Him is to realize He loves him/her more than even parents, He died on the cross for your prodigal. Turn loose, trust the Lord Jesus, put your finger on His promises and pray.

“Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.” Ps 34:19 (The righteous is any that have put their trust in the Lord Jesus for salvation.)

“Call upon Me in the day of trouble and I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.” Ps 50:15

Nothing brings the Lord into human circumstances quicker than faith in Him and in His word.

3. Parents of prodigals are often derailed by guilt – remember, no one has more prodigals than God Himself, the perfect Father. Children, even though they may have confessed Christ early, still have an old sinful nature. No parent is perfect.

Here’s our miracle: Two of our prodigals turned back to Christ and returned married to unbelievers. They are also saved now. Three of my sons turned back to the Lord and He gave them amazing wives to help them in their new pathway. Like Job we have received double of everything and all we did was barely hang on. My five children alive from the dead, stable adults and loving Christ, and 5 more besides who each love Christ.
